Here’s a little clip from a backpacking trip my wife and I went on recently down in Grand Staircase- Escalante National Monument. On our hike out, we got front-row seats to a spectacular thunderstorm that rolled through the area. Not long after this was taken, waterfalls started appearing all along the canyon rim, including over the edge of the overhang we were sitting under. Really an awesome thing to watch.
Just FYI, hanging out under overhangs like this is probably not a great idea in a lightning storm, because lighting can sometimes bridge the gap across the entrance. However, this was a pretty big and dry overhang (we were probably 50 or 60 feet back from the edge), so we thought we’d be ok. Hard to say for sure though!
